Blood and Roses by Aneeqa Shoaib Episode 7

STORY 7

               THE TOWER THAT

                     BREATHES

(So horrifying, it has no origin. It doesn’t let you finish reading.)

 WARNING:

This story contains a pattern that pulls readers in.

Some say they start hearing sounds in their room halfway through.

If you’re reading this at night, do not read aloud.

And do not scroll fast.

……..

There’s a town in northern Kazakhstan.

So remote, it’s not on maps anymore.

Villagers vanished.

All of them.

Except for one recording, recovered from a man’s body, found 13 miles away with both ears torn off.

Here’s the transcript from that tape.

    “I didn’t want to climb it…”

“I was a field technician.

Just fixing the old radio towers.

This one wasn’t even on the map.

It… was just there.

A huge tower.

Black metal.

No wires.

No stairs.

Just standing in the middle of nowhere, like it had grown from the earth”

 “I didn’t climb it.

I swear, I didn’t even want to.

But I blinked, and I was already halfway up.*”

PART 2 :

                    THE BREATHING

“It… breathes.

The tower breathes.

Every few seconds, you feel this low inhale, like it’s sucking in the cold from the sky.

And it exhales behind your eyes.

My ears started bleeding.

But the worst part was the sound it made when it exhaled…”

 “It said my name.

Not out loud.

Not in my head.

But somewhere in between”

“Like I was remembering being called.”

 Room 0

There’s only one door at the top of the tower.

It’s labeled:

       “Room 0”

Inside?

 “Nothing but a chair.

Facing a mirror.

But the reflection isn’t yours.

 It’s someone else.

 Watching you.*

And if you blink… they smile.*”

PART 3 :

              EYES OPEN FOREVER

“I can’t close my eyes anymore.

Because when I do… I don’t open them in the same place.

I keep waking up inside the tower. Even now.

Even after I jumped.

It doesn’t let you die.

It just resets you back on the ladder.”

“I don’t know how many times I’ve died.

The tower keeps me climbing.

It remembers each scream, each fall, each blink.”

PART 4 :

                    LAST ENTRY

“If anyone finds this… don’t come looking.

If you hear it breathing even once it’s too late.

Your lungs aren’t yours anymore.

You’re just borrowing them.

And the tower always takes back what’s breathing.”

 Wait. Did you just breathe?

 Be honest.

You didn’t even notice it, right?

The tower likes when that happens.

Because now it knows your rhythm.

And tonight, if your dreams echo…

You’ll climb a cold ladder in the dark.

And wonder:

Why is it exhaling behind my eyes?

THE END (if it ever ends…)
